Memphis-born and Nashville-raised, Jay is excited to be a part of the ministry at GPC, joining the congregation in August of 2012. Though at times offering a hand in many of the wonderful aspects of GPC’s ministry, his main concentrations are the Adult Education and Missions programs at the church.
A graduate of Princeton Theological Seminary, Jay focused (as much as the curriculum would allow) in biblical studies and preaching, all the while working in a local church’s Christian Education and Youth programs. He was the recipient of the Jagow Award in Homiletics and Speech and was selected to be part of the denomination’s Company of New Pastors.
In addition to classes and church work, Jay also found time to play in the seminary’s Bluegrass Ensemble; participate in Burt Reynolds Day, an annual moustache competition; and impersonate the seminary president.
Jay first felt a call to ministry while he was a student at the University of Georgia. Since then, he has been led from Georgia to Argentina to New Jersey (and everywhere in between), and now to Germantown!
A Presbyterian at heart, Jay has been involved with Presbyterian churches in Nashville, Tennessee; Athens, Georgia; Buenos Aires, Argentina; and Pennington, New Jersey. His hobbies and passions include music, reading, teaching, travel, and college football (Go Dawgs).
