As members of the body of Christ, we are told to “bear one another’s burdens and so fulfill the law of Christ” (Gal. 6:2) and to “rejoice with those who rejoice and weep with those who weep” (Rom. 14:15).
The Grief Support Group is an outreach ministry to those in the Germantown Presbyterian Church community who have lost a loved one through death. This is not professional counseling or group therapy; rather, it is a gathering of those in the family of faith who are going through the grief and bereavement journey, to gain comfort, encouragement, and support. Grieving is the normal expression of sorrow associated with the loss of a loved one, and no one has to walk through this journey alone.
This ministry seeks to move participants from isolation into participating more fully in life after a significant loss occurs. Types of loss vary, but those who are bereaved ordinarily have similar emotions and experiences, thus gathering in this way can offer support, care, encouragement, and help that will lead to healing. Dealing with grief is not easy, but facing our grief and working through it helps us define our “new normal,” who we are now, and who we can become. Our loved ones will always be missed, but we can learn to incorporate their death into our lives in such a way that we can one day feel peace, hope and eventually joy.
Grief support sessions are conducted by group facilitators in a confidential setting to discuss aspects of the grief process, to gain new insights into grieving, and to become equipped with skills for navigating this journey.
Please prayerfully consider joining our team at 6:00 p.m. on the 2nd and 4th Thursdays of each month (we will not meet if there is another church-wide event or the week of a church holiday).
