Missions – Local

The Missions Leadership Team (MLT) is a committee of the Session open to all members of the congregation.  The purpose of the MLT is to help GPC develop a clear, robust theological and scriptural understanding both of the need for mission and its implementation.  The MLT has several important goals: to establish GPC as an action-oriented missional church; to provide long-term, relationship-based mission opportunities for the GPC congregation; to work with other committees and groups to provide proactive/hands-on involvement; and to provide clear global missions direction, seeking to establish longstanding international partnerships.  We try to focus on “hand-up” efforts as opposed to “hand-out” efforts in order to break the cycles of dependence.  We are always praying for God’s guidance in new opportunities to go with our established efforts. In particular, given our church’s passion for teaching and education, we are exploring what it would mean to focus on education-related missions and ministries as a church.

The MLT meets on the second Tuesday of each month at 6:00 PM, and you are always invited!  For information, contact Jay Howell in the church office at 901-754-5195 or jayh@germantownpres.org or Merrill Wise at 901-896-4396 or merrill.wise@earthlink.net.

Memphis Suit Project Returns to GPC

In the month of April, GPC will again be supporting the Memphis Suit Project (MSP), calling for any suits and business attire. MSP supports individuals searching for employment but otherwise do not have access to appropriate clothing for job interviews, etc. Please consider donating any lightly used suits and business attire. Though MSP appreciates all generosity, they also encourage us to remember that if we wouldn’t wear a particular suit ourselves, we probably shouldn’t expect someone else to wear it to a job interview, so please no leftover disco suits!

You may drop off suits and business clothing to the church office. Contact Robert Walker (robertmtwalker@hotmail.com) or Pastor Jay (jayh@germantownpres.org) for more info.

Home Runs for Hunger – Baseball is getting started with all of the pro teams in spring training in warm climates. In late March and early April you will have the opportunity to help feed the hungry by pledging support for each home run hit by the Memphis Redbirds at home this season. Look for the table set up in the Narthex soon. If you want more information, contact Warren Crain (901-755-2106 or wbcrain@aol.com).
