Music Ministry

piano keysMusic is an integral part of worship at Germantown Presbyterian. The Chancel Choir enhances the 11:00 worship service with awe-inspiring presentations. During the year, a variety of special musical events are presented. Many of these are accompanied by brass quintet, strings and other instruments in addition to the 32 rank pipe organ. The Chancel Choir rehearsals are Wednesdays 7:15 – 9:00 p.m. Children participate  through their own age-based singing choirs, plus a hand bell choir.

Music Opportunities at GPC

Chancel Choir

Chancel Choir

  • The GPC Chancel Choir is comprised of approximately 70 individuals (40-50 on average each Sunday) who love to sing and who are dedicated to leading our congregation in worship through music. The choir sings a mix of traditional anthem repertory, spirituals, contemporary/20th century selections as well as standard cantata and oratorio repertory. Trumpets, brass  quintet and various other instrumental combinations are used frequently to enhance the worship experience. The congregation has grown to anticipate and expect presentations of sections of Handel’s Messiah with Chamber Orchestra during Advent and Lent.
  • The choir sings regularly at the 11:00 a.m. Sunday worship service. On special occasions, Easter Sunday, the Sunday before Christmas and on Sundays featuring special music presentations the choir sings at both 8:30 a.m. & 11:00 a.m. (6-8 times a year). Rehearsals are at 7:15 p.m. Wednesday evenings. New choir members are always welcome. If you are new to GPC and have a choral background, the Chancel Choir is the place for you. Contact Jerold Teachey , Director of Music, at jeroldt@germantownpres.org for more information.

Children's Choir

Children’s Choir

Children’s choirs at Germantown Presbyterian Church will begin September 9. There will be two separate choirs this year both meeting 5:00-6:00 on Sunday afternoons. The Cherub choir for 4-6 year olds will meet with Karen Schowalter Cooper downstairs in the children’s area. The 2nd-5th grade children will also meet downstairs with their leader, Sandy Franks. The children will be exposed to traditional and current church music and a variety of musical instruments including guitar, kazoo and Orff teaching instruments. These choirs will present the skills they have learned both together and separately during worship services throughout the year, including special programs in December and May.

The Handbell Choir

The goal of the handbell program is to glorify God with the gifts and talents He has given to us and to use those gifts as an offering for worship. Even if you have never rung a bell, the technique is simple. See the listing below to find your spot. Carolyn Mason is the director of each group
