The committee has developed a short survey. Please take a few minutes to complete it, so that we might complete the Church Information Form more accurately, as we begin our search for a pastor. We also ask that you continue to pray for GPC, the PNC, and the one whom our Lord would choose to lead us into the future. The linkto the online survey is:
We ask that you prayerfully complete the survey as soon as possible. We have set a deadline of July 25th to complete this phase of the process. There will also be printed copies of the survey available at the church if you have any difficulty with the on-line version, however we would prefer you complete the on-line version if possible.
Thank you for your participation in sharing your ideas.
Yours in Christ,

Excitement and steel beams are rising this June as GPC’s new porte cochere and covered walkway take shape on the south side of the sanctuary. On June 1, Linkous Construction began work on the narthex improvements and the connection linking the porte cochere and loggia to the narthex.
The new entrance to the narthex—from the covered drop-off and walkway—is going in on the south corner of the narthex, where the sacristy was formerly located. Double doors will replace an existing window. When the narthex work is complete in mid-July, the narthex will feature a new restroom (to the north of the front entrance), new sacristy and a handicapped-accessible entrance.
In answer to some of the congregation’s latest questions about the construction:
Why have the narthex and balcony been so hot lately? The compressor went out in October. Instead of replacing it, church officers decided to wait for the new unit to be installed. Thankfully, that new unit HAS been installed. It will be operational in the next few weeks. Church bulletins will no longer need to double as fans.
Why do we have stairs leading down and then back up to the Activity Center? The newly installed stairs that lead down from the driveway to the east-facing AC entrance will go away. They are in place temporarily, only until construction is finished. When the new loggia is in place, it will provide the handicapped accessible entrance to the Activity Center. Pedestrians will have the option of entering the AC through a new entrance on the north side of the AC lobby between the AC and the sanctuary. This entrance will have no stairs. The stairs that lead up to the current AC entrance from the sidewalk will remain there for those who want to use that entrance. Members of the Master Plan committee predict that the old entrance to the AC—the one with the steps—will get minimal use.
What is the new building that has arisen in the middle of the parking lot? This building will enclose the dumpster.
Which entrance should members use during off-hours, when the only way into the buildings is through a keypad-activated door? For those members in charge of off-hour activities who have received a keypad code to enter the premises, the new keypad is located on the Warren Hall door that faces the courtyard on the east.
Why do I keep seeing Tim McCaskill, Mike Goodwin and others hanging around the Arthur Road parking lot on Sunday mornings? The members of the Master Plan Committee have committed to greet, assist and answer your building-related questions on Sunday mornings. So if you have a question, seek out one of your friendly Master Plan Committee members.
Members of the Master Plan Committee are: Kay Donaho, Mike Goodwin, Karen Fesmire, David Green, Tim McCaskill, Mickie Nabers, Helen Norman, Forrest Owens, Bob Pitts, Phil Russell.
School may be out for summer, but Sunday school for adults continues on. Summer is a great time to try out a new class or reconnect with old friends. On the second Sunday of each month there will be a breakfast for the entire church. Breakfasts will be served at 9:45 a.m. in the Activity Center on June 13, July 11 and August 8.
Parents of Young Children – Nooma – 210
The Parents of Young Children Sunday School Class meeting this summer is using the curriculum from NOOMA (NOOMA is a series of short films that explore our world from a perspective of Jesus). From the website (http://nooma.com/): “Jesus lived with the awareness that God is doing something, right here, right now, and anybody can be a part of it…. Wherever he went, whatever he did, Jesus started discussions about what matters most, because for Jesus, God is always inviting us to open our eyes and join in. NOOMA is an invitation to search, question and join the discussion.”
Each week we will watch a video (15-20 minutes) and then have a short discussion afterwards that will be led by one of the class members. If you’re interested in joining our class, whether you fit the “demographic” or not, please come join us during the Sunday school hour this summer for an engaging, enlightening and spiritually uplifting experience.
This Present Word – Christian Commitment in Today’s World – Warren Hall
This summer the class focuses on Christian commitment. This quarter explores the nature, foundation and marks of commitment as they apply to Christians in today’s world. Through prayer, Bible study and fellowship, this class explores how believers can live and act toward one another. The study also focuses on how Christian commitment draws believers into the future, preoccupied with God’s mission in Christ. It describes the joy and peace of commitment and focuses on how human commitment is upheld by God’s commitment and faithfulness.
This class is an ideal fellowship and learning opportunity for established and new members alike. Join us for one Sunday or every Sunday as we discover together what it means to make a commitment to discipleship. Join Gray Carter and Jim Boyd for coffee and fellowship as they lead this class in Warren Hall.
One-Year Bible – 211
Have you ever wanted to read the entire Bible, but haven’t found the time? The summer is a great time to check out this group and dig into God’s Word. Do you want to read the stories and discuss what happened in them? Looking for a group to connect with in the church? Join the One-Year Bible Class as they together read through the entire Bible in one year. Each week the class gathers to discuss the passages read and insights gained. New members are always welcome to join anytime! This class, led by Craig Russell, meets year round.
Hits from the 50’s and 60’s – 214
The Sandwich Generation, those born in the 1950’s and 1960’s, is the focus for this ongoing Sunday school class. The class will meet weekly to build community and relationships. The leadership team will encourage participants in aspects of study, fellowship, mission and prayer. This summer will be lead by members and will focus on service and discipleship. Leaders for the class are Tom Scott, Alinda Fahrenkopf and Jill Crocker.
For delicious food, soul-filling Bible Study and meaningful conversation, the Tuesday morning men's group is the place to be. The goal of this group is helping men realize a renewal of the Spirit in their lives. An early 6:30 a.m. start gets you out by 7:30, and for only $3.00 it’s the best breakfast in town.
Join the Walk-Run-Ride Club on Saturday mornings at the beautiful Shelby Farms Park on Walnut Grove for exercise, fun and fellowship.
